Check out our blog post that shares our updated policies and procedures during this crisis.

How "custom" are our custom bodycare products?

To us, "custom" means you're calling all the shots—not just having your name stamped onto a bar of soap. We give you free reign to make your own choices about the basic formula, essential oils, exfoliants, fragrances, and other add-ins. You even get to choose your label art and soap name. Anyway you want it, that's the way we make it. Straight up.

How much do I have to order?

When we say "custom," we mean custom quantity, too. So, if you want one bar of "Shirley's EucaMint," you can get just one bar of "Shirley's EucaMint." No bulk orders necessary. Unless that's what you're here for.

Are your products really vegan?

This is seriously, literally, indisputably an animal byproduct-free zone. All of the ingredients we use in our products are plant-based, which makes them vegan. We don't use any ingredients derived from animals or their byproducts, such as goat's milk, cow's milk, beeswax, or honey.

Side note: People commonly use goat's milk in soap for its moisturizing effects. But there are plenty folks who've tried our Ultra-Dry/Sensitive Skin Formula and tell us that it is just as effective—or even more effective—than goat's milk products. Take that, conventional wisdom!

Do you add glycerin to your soaps?

We do not add glycerin to our soaps, however glycerin is naturally produced as a result of our soapmaking process, and is present in all of our soaps. If you're allergic to glycerin, it might be that you're allergic to the industrially isolated glycerin as opposed to naturally-present glycerin. We encourage you to give our products a try, and if they don't react well with your skin, then please contact us —we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

How can body care products be gluten-free? It's not like I'm going to eat them or anything.

We wouldn't expect you, nor advise you, to eat soap or any other product we offer. But here's a fun little fact: "gluten-free" doesn't just apply to food. It also applies to the products you use on your skin. We've never used wheat, barley, or rye in our products. And after discovering that oats often contain gluten through contact with other grains, we immediately switched to gluten-free, certified organic oats. How's that for gluten-free guru-ism?

Why don't you offer scents like caramel, vanilla, pumpkin, etc.?

While awesome in a latte, these scents aren't suited for totally natural body care. We're hardliners about using only natural ingredients, and we don't offer any of the synthetic stuff even if it smells good. Instead, we use plant-based, pure grade essential oils in our products, as these offer many benefits and are safe for use on the skin. No questions about it.

What the BLEEP does "halal" mean?

"Halal" means "permissible" in Arabic. It signifies that a product is produced following established ethical, Islamic rules, often pertaining to the humane and safe treatment of animals. To make sure that we follow these guidelines, we thoroughly ensure that all of our ingredients are plant-based. Our products do not contain any alcohol or animal (namely pork) fat, therefore making it permissible for use.

So…if you eat halal food, wouldn't you want the products you're using on your body to be halal as well? We do! And yes, we do use them.

Is my soap ready to use as soon as I get it? Doesn't soap take time to properly "cure"?

Look at you, smarty! You're right—soap takes time to "cure." That's why we developed a proprietary method that completes the soapmaking process within one day. To ensure it's safe to use, we pH test every soap batch. So, if by "ready," you mean safe, yes, our soap is safe to use. But you are correct that most soapmaking processes require 30 days or more for the chemical reaction that makes soap (known as "saponification") to finish. This is another reason our soapmaking process differentiates us from other soap companies.

I noticed lye is one of your ingredients. Isn't lye harsh for your skin?

Some common errors in soapmaking are adding too much lye, not adding enough oil, or mis-measuring ingredients altogether. This results in an incomplete chemical reaction, meaning some lye remains in the soap. By contrast, we make sure that all the lye we use in our formulas is fully converted into usable soap. Guaranteed. We wouldn't lye about it.

Do you use sulfates or phthalates in your soaps?

No, we do not use any sulfates or ingredients containing phthalates whatsoever. All the products on our website at made using all-natural ingredients. In fact, as you build your own bodycare, our system generates an ingredient listing for you to review detailing the exact ingredients going into your product; just scroll down to the bottom of the builder page, near the 'add to cart' button. We also have ingredients listed for all of our Popular Products as well.

Is this just glycerin soap?

We're going to answer a question with a question. Do you mean is this "melt and pour" soap? In that case, nope! This is traditional, handcrafted soap made by combining plant-based oils and lye to create the chemical reaction that makes soap. Glycerin, a moisturizing agent, is naturally produced as a byproduct of our soapmaking process, but we don't add extra glycerin to our soaps.

How can I make my custom soap last longer?

Like most things in life, the lifespan of your soap depends on how well you take care of it. The drier your bar of soap stays, the longer it will last. There are a few things you can do to help with this: store your soap bar on the opposite side of the shower (out of the direct spray of your shower head) or just outside of the shower curtain to help keep it drier.

Using a soap saver also helps. By elevating the soap and allowing air to circulate around it, the soap can more quickly dry out between uses. We specifically say "soap saver" instead of "soap rest" or "soap dish," because, for best results, the soap saver should enable good drainage—something standard soap rests or soap dishes don't necessarily do.

Finally, you can also cut your bar of soap in half and alternate your use of each half. This gives each half more time to dry out between uses, and, if only half of the bar is wet at any particular time, the bar as a whole will last longer.

I've heard there are lots of problems associated with the harvest of palm oil, including deforestation, animal cruelty, and more. Is the palm oil you use sustainable?

Heck yeah it is! We specifically source sustainable, organic palm oil as well as sustainable, organic palm kernel oil, in order to preserve natural habitat and protect wildlife. Both of the oils we use are Rainforest Alliance Certified. Check it out sometime. We bet you'll approve.

Why can't I include any exfoliants or add-ins if I choose the Ultra-Dry/Sensitive Skin Formula?

Because we've already done the work for you. We've mastered this formula based on your skin's needs. And while you won't get all the bells and whistles we have to choose from, you can still mix, match and come away with a product you'll be stoked to use or give as a gift. Scout's honor.

If you have your heart set on adding exfoliants or one of the other add-ins, such as activated charcoal or Bentonite clay, you'll need to opt for a different base instead. Both the Neutral/Dry Skin Formula and the Oily Skin Formula bases will support add-ins well. Give it a go.

Are there any names I can't put on my custom product?

We're all for free speech! Almost anything goes. The only names that we won't print are direct derogatory slurs towards a specific group of people. We're all about inclusivity and love.

Why the sliding scale pricing?

We believe everyone should be able to have all-natural, high quality body care products. We don't skimp on ingredients. We only use all-natural, high quality exfoliants and pure grade essential oils. The result is very, very high quality body care products, but it's also a little pricier than a conventional bar of Ivory.

Our customers pay what they can, or can choose to pay what they think it's worth. Paying a little more helps offset the cost for those who aren't able to. Call it an honor system, but radical integrity is the kind of thing we're into.
